BROWN BROTHERS® Distribution catch up with Aiden Moffat from Laser Tools racing mid-way through the season.
Laser Tools Racing was a new team to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) back in 2014, set up to support driver Aiden Moffat. Aiden made history in 2013 as the youngest driver ever to start in a BTCC race.
Mid-way through the 2016 season Aiden sits ninth on the independent drivers’ standings, when we caught up with him, he said: “This season has been a tough one so far. We have consistently had great pace, but have not carried much luck at all.
“We managed to get an independent win, one fastest lap and our best ever qualifying position with a 2nd. So, although it’s been disappointing not to get some better results, it is still very promising with how we are performing.” Aiden then added, “I was also invited to join the BRDC Rising Star Scheme earlier this year which is a great achievement for me and a privilege to be a part of.”
Looking back over a turbulent season, we asked Aiden if he had any regrets or if there was anything he would have done differently: “The biggest regret has to be race weekend at Thruxton. We qualified 2nd with the quickest race lap of the weekend, however left with only 1 point. After being hit off the circuit when going for the lead at the start of race one, which resulted in being knocked down to 8th.
“The race just got worse when my car was hit again resulting in my steering getting bent. Saying that, I still managed to fight back up to 2nd position before getting a puncture with 2 laps to go. It is a big regret that I didn’t back down, giving up 1st place for 2nd or 3rd. I had the pace to fight back and wouldn't have got the damage which led to the puncture.”
With 4 weekend dates left in the season, the Laser Tools racing team are looking to achieve more hoping to finish the season in a good top ten spot. Aiden then added; “I am really looking to be on the podium in the second half of the season. Myself and the team have consistently had the pace to be up there in the races. The next race is Knockhill, where I got my first ever podium and it is my home track, so I am hopefully things will turn around there.
Last season we also had brilliant pace at the Rockingham circuit, which comes after Knockhill, so the next two meetings have the potential to be strong for us.”
Brown Brothers would like to wish Aiden and the Laser Tools team good luck for the rest of the season.
